Members of the club are usually caving every weekend, and sometimes weekdays too, so if you want to come along then get in contact with our president or ask at the social. The calendar has information about the dates of our upcoming trips over the semester.
Trip fees vary depending how far we drive, but a weekend trip typically costs between £20-£30 all-in. That includes petrol, food, hut fees, cave entrance fees and club kit hire. Day trips to South Wales are usually nearer a fiver each.
Caves that we have visited during the last year can be found here.
In order to make the most of the weekend, we leave Aberystwyth on the Friday afternoon once everyone’s lectures have finished, and travel back Sunday evening. This allows us to get 2 caves in at least…maybe 3 or 4 if people are keen and not too hungover. We stay in other club’s huts, which are purpose built for visiting cavers (large kitchen and lounge area, bunk-style bedrooms, changing rooms, kit drying and washing facilities, bbq etc..). When not underground, we’ll be partying with cavers from other clubs and generally having a fun time – most huts are within walking distance of a pub. Everyone mucks in cooking food, with a cooked breakfast in the morning and a big meal in the evening. Its a pretty intensive weekend, but great fun nevertheless.
What to bring:
- Sleeping bag (bunks will have mattresses)
- Change of warm clothes and underwear (white not advised)
- Money (for more beer at the pub!)
- Shoes/boots that you don’t mind getting muddy when not in the cave
- Torch is useful during the evening
