Hi all, ive been trying to work out booking huts and stuff for the coming term. SWCC is already booked for the term, so we are going to hopefully kick start the year off in Croydon (no not the place, the hut!) which is in Ystradfellte, close to Tobys favourites like bridge cave, Pant Mawr and Porth-y-ogof. Hopefully around October 15-16th.
Next is Fireworks weekend, where we are hopefully trying to keep with tradition and staying at the belfry. this is where we can see Luke getting lost on a magical tour of Bristol and Henry throwing giant wood axes at balloons. This will be November 4-5th.
SWCC and Derbyshire will hopefully follow in 2012, along with a long awaited trip down Otter Hole, which we can hopefully sort!
Details for 2011′s Hidden Earth are available. This years event is being held in Monmouth, South Wales on September 23rd-25th. Last years event was a big success, and i would strongly recommend going if you would like to know more about Caving! Because of its convenient location close to the Brecons there is no reason why we cant try and make a weekend out of it and stay in a hut. Currently SWCC is booked, however there are more close by that we could use, Westminster or Whitewalls… There is camping available on site, but this can be decided in the near future…
If there is enough interest then a hut can be booked. Please email me (mkb9) if you would like to go, also I will be sending this out as an email. Please note that the club will not be organising tickets to the event, these you can do yourself. Check there site; http://hidden-earth.org.uk/index2.html
As you are all aware, the new plan for the summer caving getaway is to visit yorkshire where this years CHECC was held and where some fine caves are found. We briefly asked people when they are not available, but i think it would be easier if we could just have anyone who is definately interested to send an email to either Mark mkb9 or Jono jol9 who are staying in Aberystwyth for the time being and have time to try and arrange a trip for everyone.
If there is a lack of enthusiasm then the expedition will unfortunately not go ahead. Currently the thinking is either in these date boundaries; Mid june – Mid July or September, but these could obviously change. Check out the photos from last years Ireland Expedition, we dont want to miss out on another chance to go!
If you were at the social last night you probably know about the upcoming weekend trip to the lovely hills of Mendip, where one can find such treasures as The Hunters and The Belfry, the hut were we will be staying.
The trip will cost £30 (mostly petrol, as food is always cheep and the hut is only £4 a night.
There are many caves in the area including Swildons, the one were Jack Osbourne chickened out of doing the sump.
Remember to bring the usual: towel, dry clothes and alcohol. Also a bit of money because we will probably go to The Hunters for a drink.
If you were not at the social or didn’t confirm if you were coming or not, please let us know ASAP. Also let us know what time you can leave so we can sort cars.
So after a very very long break we will finally be going away for a few nights this weekend!
We are going to stay in the quaint Westminster hut in South Wales, near such wonderful caves as Bridge Cave, Ogof Fawr and Little Neath.
There is also a BCRA field meeting at the SWCC. Registration deadline has passed, but try giving them a call if you are interested in going. Details found here:
On Sunday, Colin and Sam D. visited Bwlch Glas Mine and completed a ‘survey’ for anyone interested in having a visit…it involves a bit of SRT. I may go back soon to get some photos of the old mining equipment, if anyone else wants to go?
As you may or may not know, there will be a trip this weekend to South Wales.
The hut is called Whitewalls, which is near some wonderful caves like Daren (a sporting, rather tight and wet 400m entrance crawl..oo lovely!!), Aggy, Craig and Draenen. All big big, fun systems to explore! The cost for accommodation, food and petrol will be £22. Please bring it to the social if you can, or contact Jono if you can’t pay tonight.
Hi guys, it’s time to choose your Mr Men costume for CHECC.
Basically choose a Mr Man or Little Miss from the list below and dress up like them, and also have something so that people can tell which character you are. Comment on the post to say who you want to be (try not to get the same as somebody else!)
If you weren’t at the social last night, we took names down for the weekend trip to Mendip coming up. There’s spaces left, so if you want to come this weekend, leave a comment or send Megan an email asap. There will be an awesome fireworks display in the local village on the Saturday night, as well as an opportunity to visit the best pub in the world and meet some new cavers. Cost will be £30 all in.
