Naica Cave on BBC2

On TV this week…

1. Mexico’s Cave of Crystals stunned geologists when it was first discovered in 2000. The underground chamber contains some of the largest natural crystals ever found – some of the selenite structures have grown to more than 10m long. Professor Iain Stewart got a rare glimpse of the subterranean spectacle while filming for the new BBC series How the Earth Made Us.
How The Earth Made Us: on Tuesday 19th January on BBC Two at 2100.

2. Iolo Williams goes underground to explore the landscapes within caves and old mines. With on-screen English subtitles.
Tir Cymru: Thursday 21st January on S4C at 2130.

Hidden Earth 2009

hidden earth logo

Hidden Earth is coming down south this year to Mendip. For those who haven’t heard of it before it’s the UK’s annual caving conference hosted by the BCA, with plenty of talks, stalls, competitions, beer and a caving stomp. Dates are 25-27 September.

Some of us from ACC will be going this year so if you want to go along then discuss at the social. Not sure who will be driving from Aber though. For more info, or to book in advance, their website is here. (Tickets can be bought on the door but are a little more expensive).
